Euglena Academy is closing
We regret to announce that we are closing Euglena Academy in Eugene. Several factors are involved in our decision, including (but not limited to): 1) insufficient enrollment, probably driven by tough economic times, punctuated by our open public assessment of challenging global conditions, notably climate change, that will likely end civilization as we know it (people don't like bad news); & 2) the emergence of personal & professional opportunities elsewhere - including abroad - for our founder, Alder Stone Fuller. Alder's new project - A Story of Gaia, the basis of his upcoming book - is beginning now in Eugene as a set of short courses & workshops. (Enrollment continues through the first week of May.)
In mid-June, A Story of Gaia will migrate to Portland, Oregon (contact us for details); then by July & into late fall, it will move to the east coast of the US, based in southern Maine (in & near "the other" Portland). Check out the evolving Story of Gaia web site. Alder will probably be returning to Eugene in December, 2010 to offer classes for a few months, but will no longer be based in Eugene.
The founder, board of directors, staff & advisers of Euglena Academy wish to thank the hundreds in Eugene & elsewhere who have studied at & supported Euglena Academy in its multiple incarnations - beginning as ProtoTista, in 2001 - in Eugene during the first decade of the 21st century. We gave it our best. We trust that our students learned as much as we did.
A dedicated group of students, volunteers & friends are making plans to keep Euglena Studio - where academy classes were held - for use by the community for reading seminars, projects & social events related to the Adaptability Project, and as a space where Alder can teach when he is in Eugene.
